Hiking in Nerja: Rio Chillar

Adventurous hiking in Rio Chillar

There are many beautiful walks in the Nerja area. One of these is the walk along the Rio Chillar. This route starts at the beach of Playa El Playazo, where the river flows into the sea. If you want to walk a slightly shorter route, you can park your car at the parking in calle Mirto which means you skip the slightly less interesting part of the route. 

At the beginning of the walk the riverbed is very wide, the riverbanks are beautifully overgrown and here and there you see a small cave. The further you follow the river upstream, the narrower the riverbed becomes and the more beautiful the surroundings. From a certain point you can no longer keep your feet dry because you have to cross the river. Ultimately, you walk up to your knees in water through beautiful narrow gorges where the rocks tower high above you. There are also some natural pools where you where you can cool off in the water. A very nice route to take with children.
